Inactivating medications

Inactivating medications

  1. Open the patient’s chart, select the medications tab.
    1. Alternately, you can right-click the prescription from the overview tab.
  2. Highlight the drug to display the prescription.
  3. Click inactive.

Auto-Inactivate Medications

Instead of manually inactivating medications, enable the feature to automatically move medications to inactive based on a calculated supply duration. (Setup > program setup > charting > prescriptions > ‘Auto-Inactivate Prescriptions’).

For example, if a prescription includes a dosage of “Take 2mg once daily for 1 week,” the medication will auto-inactivate once 1 week has passed.

Alternatively, medications will automatically move to inactive based on the dispense notifications received from the pharmacy. A notification from the pharmacy should indicate the amount dispensed to the patient, how long that amount should last, and the number of remaining refills.

For example, a notification is received indicating that 10 units have been dispensed. Those 10 units should last 10 days and have 0 refills remaining. In this example, the medication will auto inactive after 10 days have passed.

Append Additional Notes to Inactive Medications

  1. Highlight the medication.
  2. Click append additional notes.
  3. Type in notes into the text box.
  4. Click ok.

*Note, once additional notes have been appended, they cannot be edited again.
