Manual lab entry

Manual lab entry

Adding a manual lab entry is beneficial to continue tracking trends of lab values if the patient had labs completed by another practitioner outside of this clinic.

For example, a patient goes to the diabetic clinic for 6 months, and the lab results are not copied over to the GP. Entering those values into the labs tab on the patient chart will allow the trend to continue without missing entries.

Another example would benefit in the panel management of patients. Using CDS queries to find patients who are due for a test will be more accurate if the labs completed externally are entered in the same place they would appear if requested from this clinic.

How to add a manual lab

Open a patient chart, click on the lab/report tab, click new.

  1. Enter the Procedure the same as it comes in electronically.
  2. Select a doctor (use the default practitioner for continuity).
  3. Click under description and select from the dropdown or manually type in result as it would normally electronically come in.
  4. Enter a value for the result.
  5. Select if the test was abnormal from the dropdown if normal leave it blank.
  6. Add in reference and units if you know them.
  7. Click add row to add in more entries (this is helpful for those grouped results such as Lipid panel)
  8. Click save.
  9. Click new to add more or click close to exit this window.
