Renewing medications using PrescribeIT

Renewing medications using PrescribeIT

Renewing medications may be prompted by the patient coming in for an appointment, or the pharmacy may send over a renewal request.

Pharmacy renewal request

These requests will come into the doctor as a message, found on the doctor view under the PrescribeIT tab.

  1. Approve all – will approve all the medications for that patient that has a renewal request on file.
  2. Deny all – will open the denial reason window, an option must be selected from the dropdown prior to clicking ok.

  1. Respond to request - opens the patient’s chart to the medication, allowing comments to be added prior to sending.
  2. Select approve to renew the medication, updating the dates.

    1. Click e-sign and send to submit the renewal to the pharmacy.
  1. To deny a pharmacy requested renewal, select a reason from the dropdown that appears, add in additional text as required.

    1. Click send to submit the response to the pharmacy.

Renewing medications from the chart

Open the patient chart.

  2. Select ‘renew selected’ or ‘renew all active and continuous’.
  3. The medication tab will open with all the medications updated as selected previously.

These same options are also available from the reference panel.

Click here for more information on the reference panel.

To renew medications individually, click on the medication tab form the chart.

  1. Select a medication from the active list.

  1. Click renew (in the middle).
  2. A new draft will be displayed for the medication, make any edits as required.
  3. Select the delivery method and pharmacy if PrescribeIT is selected.
  4. Click on e-sign and send, e-sign, or e-sign and print.

Split Prescriptions

There may be an instance where a pharmacy is unable to dispense the medication’s quantity unit as originally prescribed, instead dispensing two different quantity units. For example, if you prescribe a 100mg pill, but the pharmacy does not have a 100mg pill on hand. Instead, the pharmacy dispenses one 75mg pill and one 25mg pill.

In this scenario, if the pharmacy sends a renewal request for the medication, you will receive a renewal bundle comprised of two medications: one 75mg pill, and one 25mg pill.

From here, you can respond to the renewal bundle as required.
